RYA Day Skipper Practical

5 Days (Monday till Friday),
Maximum 5 students per course.

5 days aboard, 100 miles logged and 4 night hours. A knowledge of basic navigation and sailing ability.

Navigation, pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and skippering techniques.

5 continues days, course starting on Monday mornings  at 10.00 until Friday afternoon 17.00

 

Skippering a yacht for the first time can be a daunting yet exciting experience. The RYA Day skipper practical course is designed to "Take Charge" of the yacht safely and confidently.
A skipper’s task is much more than just navigate. The skipper takes ultimate responsibility for the complete safety and well being of the yacht and crew.
These responsibilities include weather forecasting, victual ling, engine maintenance, sail selection and handling, passage planning, watch keeping, navigation and pilotage.

Your experienced instructor will patiently teach you these skills and you will put them in practice on short passages. Boat handling is particularly important for Day skippers and during the length of the course you will practice mooring the yacht under various conditions. Students live aboard for the duration of the course and visit many different harbours and anchorages to practice pilotage techniques. You will complete at least 4 night hours sailing to experience night pilotage and identify lights.

At the end of the RYA Day Skipper course successful candidates will be confident to safely skipper a cruising yacht on short passages by day and will be awarded the RYA Day skipper Completion Certificate.
